Venue/Area Information: Carlyle, Illinois is located 50 miles east of downtown St. Louis Missouri. Carlyle Lake, Illinois largest in-land lake. Carlyle offers lodging, dining, and shopping opportunities for visitors, and the city welcomes 1863 events and all event participants.
This is one of those awesome venues just waiting to host a triathlon. The clean, clear Carlyle lake and surrounding farm roads make this a perfect venue with the beautiful confines of Carlyle Illinois as the host city. Just 45 minutes from St. Louis, Missouri, 3 hours from Louisville Kentucky, and Indianapolis Indiana and 4 hours from Chicago put this venue in the heart of triathlon in the midwest.

Course: Carlyle lake awaits you for a swim along the enormous breakwall in a rectangle swim course enabling friends, family and spectators to view the entire swim from above. The bike course is a super fast, flat mostly rural road course with a few small rollers but nothing to get pounding out of your saddle for. This will take you through the farm lands on mostly black topped roads which are very lightly traveled. The run is awesome with an out and back flat runthat will take you out and back across the breakwall along the lake to each turnaround point. You will be able to see the finish line from a mile away, hearing the music echo across the lake means its time to put the hammer down to the finish.

Bike: 20k. 38k set on rural country side smooth roads. This course is predominantly flat, 38k athletes have one nice climb just about 10 mile mark, so you will hit it twice. That will keep you all honest out there. It is an out and back course with a few turns and very lightly traveled. As you exit the transition area and return there is about 200m basically from the hotel in where you will need to be a little extra cautious in the event pedestrians are trying to get to the beach, picnic areas or boat heading to the launch area. This will be patrolled but you should not be in the aero position when going through these sections. Each intersection will be covered with support crew as well as marked with a series of arrows on the pavement at 75m, 50m and 25m leading upto a corner. There will also be signs posted in the ground with arrows on them and each 5k on the bike course will be marked with signs. There will be a sag truck in the event you have mechanical difficulties or need to be picked up.
**
*Remember this is an open course! You will be sharing the road with vehicular traffic.Use caution at all times. It will be your responsibility to print maps, and know the courses. It is the athlete's responsibility to know and understand the courses. Helmets are a must. No helmet - no race. MP3 players on the bike course are an automatic disqualification. Due to a few athletes actionsin the pastduring an event we are making you aware not only in this event but ALL events whether hosted by us or any other event management company YOU MUST OBEY ALL OFFICIALS and EMERGENCY VEHICLES on the course AT ALL TIMES!! The bottom line here is your race is not more important than an EMERGENCY or OFFICIAL on the course. In the event of an emergency you MUST obey officials requests, and you MUST STOP and pull off the road for any and all EMERGENCY VEHICLES to get by. This is not only to ensure the emergency vehicles can proceed, it is for your safety as well. Any athlete that does not adhere to this rule will be disqualified and will not race in a 3 d event for the rest of the year. This to us is common sense and should not have ever came to this point.Run: 5k. or 10k Heading out of the transition area you will make a left turn onto the breakwall which will be divided with a line of cones down the middle as this is an out and back. Following the breakwall the duathlon and sprint turnaround point will be just past the end of the breakwall. Olympic distance athletes will continue following chalk and cones to the turnaround point. Aid stations will be exiting the transition area, the 2500m turnaround, 2mile, and 5000m turnaround point. Water and electrolyte replacement will be available.

DUATHLON RUN 1: You will start with the first Sprint wave, heading to your turnaround point at the 2500m mark and return.
