Venue/Area Information: Carlyle, Illinois is located 50 miles east of downtown St. Louis Missouri. Carlyle Lake, Illinois largest in-land lake. Carlyle offers lodging, dining, and shopping opportunities for visitors, and the city welcomes 1863 events and all event participants.
This is one of those awesome venues just waiting to host a triathlon. The clean, clear Carlyle lake and surrounding farm roads make this a perfect venue with the beautiful confines of Carlyle Illinois as the host city. Just 45 minutes from St. Louis, Missouri, 3 hours from Louisville Kentucky, and Indianapolis Indiana and 4 hours from Chicago put this venue in the heart of triathlon in the midwest.
Course: Carlyle lake awaits you for a swim along the enormous breakwall in a rectangle swim course enabling friends, family and spectators to view the entire swim from above. The bike course is a super fast, flat mostly rural road course with a few small rollers but nothing to getpounding out of your saddle for. This will take you through the farm lands on mostly black topped roads which are very lightly traveled. The run is awesome with an out and back flat runthat will take you out and back accross the breakwall along the lake to each turnaround point. You will be able to see the finish line from a mile away, hearing the music echo across the lake means its time to put the hammer down to the finish.
Packet Pickup/Registration: Saturday 2pm - 5pm ONLYat the city park.Sunday Packet Pickup/Registration will open at 7am and close promptly at 8:30am! You must plan accordingly with travel to ensure you are on location on time.Do not arrive late. Registration will close, we will not delay others that arrived on time
Multi-Sport 101: 4:00pm in the transition area on Saturday.Geared towards the newbie, beginner. The race director willwalk you through the entire event start to finish giving great race tips along the way. We want to make sure you leave feeling ready to rock and roll in the morning.
Accomodations: The Carlyle Microtel, also known as Mariner’s Village, is a 62-room hotel with swimming pool, conference space, and an onsite restaurant. Five cabins are also on site, while the entire facility is very near the Carlyle Lake Dam West Recreation Area (the starting area for the race?Across the street from the transition area. For information on other lodging available in the area around Carlyle, visit the Tourism Bureau of Southwestern Illinois at www.thetourismbureau.org or calling them at 618-397-1488. Camping -Excellent camping opportunities are available at the state park about 10k from the transition area. Several campgrounds are located around Carlyle Lake near the City. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers operates the Dam West, McNair, and Dam East campgrounds near Carlyle. Transition Area: Open at 7:00am closes at 8:40am. No Friends or Family members allowed in the transition area for any reason. You must rack according to your race number. Please remember racks will hold 7 bikes, please be courteous to fellow athletes to ensure there is space for 7. Any and All athletes removing gear from transition areas before the announcer or race director has officially opened the transition area will be DISQUALIFIED from the race. No questions asked, your race number will be taken down and you will be disqualified. The transition area is closed until all athletes are off the bike course. Sprint athletes this goes for you as well, you must wait until all the Olympic distance athletes are off the bike course to enter the transition area. Swim: 1.5k, 500m - Carlyle Lakewith water temperatures historically between 65 and 72 degrees this time of year.Wetsuits are allowed. We will plan to have the swim course set for you on Friday, weather permitting.Olympicdistance athletes willstart us off at 9:00am, followed bySprint distance athletes at 9:30am. Life guards, Sheriff marine division and search and rescue will be on the water for your safety.If you do get into trouble out there raise your hand and a lifeguard will get to you. Wave starts will be posted at Packet Pickup. Bike: 20k. 40k Bike course description and course maps coming soon. You must obey officials and emergency vehicles at all times. Failure to do so will result in a disqualification. It will be your responsibility to print maps, and know the courses. It is the athletes responsibility to know and understand the courses. Helmets are a must, no helmet, no race. MP3 players on the bike course are automatic disqualification.
Run: 5k. 10k -Heading out of the transition area you will make a left turn onto the breakwall which will be divided with a line of cones down the middle as this is an out and back. Following the breakwall the duathlon and sprint turnaround point will be just past the end of the breakwall. Olympic distance athletes will continue following chalk and cones to the turnaround point. Aid stations will be exiting the transition area, the 2500m turnaround, 2mile, and 5000m turnaround point. Water and electrolyte replacement will be available. COURSE MAPS: Swim Run Bikeor Bike1 Transition Area Relays: At registration you will receive ONE bib number and ONE chip/strap. The bib number goes on the runner as that is who will be crossing the finish line. All relay members must be body marked with that number. The Chip/Strap will be securely fastened around the person competing in the first discipline. There will be a designated spot for All Relays at one of the entry/exit points in the transition area marked RELAYS. All staging and chip/strap exchanging is to be done at this point. Not on the course. The Chip/Strap must be securely fastened to each athletes ankle, do not grab it and go, do not put it on the wrist. Upon finishing it is the last athletes responsibility to return that chip/strap at the finish line. (one athlete may do more than one discipline) Finish/Awards: Upon finishing you will receive a finishers momento, after you have returned your chip and strap you will proceed to the post race snack tent for refreshments. Raffle and Awards will follow the last finisher of the event not before. If you chose to leave event management will not be responsible in any way for mailing your award or raffle prize. you may print awards form and mail in a check for $10 within 2 weeks after the event to get your award mailed to you. If your envelope is postmarked after 2 weeks or does not contain a check for $10 we will not send the award.
